LOVE AND WAR

the year 1917 august 15 on wednesday
the war rages on in france
behind enemy lines in a foxhole
is doctor craig and nurse Mary
they try to patch up soldiers
the best they could they talk
every day and fell in love and in secret
they would kiss and try to be alone
while the war rages on
they talk about going to  the town
2 mils away  that is been bomb
out and no one was there
so they can be alone so they
pick a night to go and they
wouldn't tell any one they said
let go tonight at midnight
the moon was full as midnight
comes they take off to town
with bottle of wine and cheese
and crackers as the war rages
on they to get town and find a bombed out
building where they think they
will be safe they sit on the floor
by the window the full  moon
shineing in they drink wine
and eat  crackers and cheese
they dance in the moon light
they kiss and make love as
the war rages on they talk
about there life that they
will have togther and then
a bomb hits there building
and they both die in vein in there
arms and are for ever togther
love and war

Thank you Cherie I wanted to put in there they stole a record player with soft music But it didn’t make any sense if there was no electricity so I took it out Yes it is very sad but that’s the way war is

Greg, I just love the simple honesty of your writing, you have described an age old dance of lovers and made it come alive for the reader ...a tragedy but what a way to go...in the first throes of love...pinned my friend ?

Forlorn and a very moving ending Greg and these two young lovers may have lost out on this earthly realm but dare say they and their love for each other carries on in in that better and more peaceful realm upstairs.
An an enthralling write from beginning to end just keeping one wondering what is going to occur next after each scene.
Thanks Greg and for delivering a sad yet moving piece. and also something off the beaten track from you also.
