LUCKY THIRTEEN

Lucky thirteen was the name of this tired old horse
All bets taken were that he wouldn't finish the course
In strolled Jack to place his hard earned bet
A day in the life this bookie would not forget

Five thousand pounds for lucky thirteen to win
The bookie took Jack's money with a chuckle and a grin
Two o'clock sharp was the start of the race
Lucky thirteen as predicted was in last place

However during the home straight a miracle occurred
Lucky thirteen rode like the wind as free as a bird
What caused the change of fortune I cannot say
Jack would certainly have a tidy sum coming his way
