Poem -

Lucy

In the blink of an eye

It happens

You never see it coming,

In this neighborhood

We worried

In this neighborhood

We scurried

And the pounding of our hearts

Could be heard

No other way home,

But the outbacks of town

No other way home

But the alleys we followed,

Lucy and I

Walked hand in hand

A barrier

To the danger around us

And the pounding of our hearts

Could be heard

Every car that drove by

Every person we saw

We ducked

At the sight of it all

I looked at Lucy,

No fear in her eyes

And the pounding of our hearts

Could be heard

When the shot rang out

There was no one in sight

And the beating of only

One heart could be heard

That night
