Poem -

TO MAKE YOU BELIEVE

All right,  i may have lied...

But it was to cover up my tears and scars

It was to make you believe that all these years everything was fine

To make you believe i led a normal life

That i was never abandoned

Beaten

Assulted

Teased

And looked down on and frowned upon

To make you believe i had a bed to sleep in and food to eat

When i ate from the ground and trash and slept in the street

To make you believe i dont cry every night

And now im slowly losing the fight

I cry because i miss you

I miss him

I miss my family

From way back when

To make you believe that there are times

When i wish i didnt have a knife

A knife to slice

Slice my wrist and my heart

I can feel myself falling apart

All because i tried to make you believe.

Valerie Beasley...

Shereen (beautiful name)!  This is a tragic story told by a very strong individual.  The images in the piece are vivid and frightening.  To have to endure the situations described…it's heart wrenching.  Well done!

Must agree with Valerie: very vivid images of a life beaten down, and crying out to someone to believe in her. The pain is evident in the woman's voice, and her desperation makes you cringe.

Well written,
Chas
