Poem -

The man unfazed

Don't let my disposition reflect upon you
My methods are not wise
Nor tried
Nor true
Simple shielding of a bruised and battered heart
Of which malice and treachery have now become art
Deflecting attempts of genuine emotion
A placid facade Is my new devotion
The guise of indifference lays heavily veiled
Covering the spot in my chest in which you impaled
Hiding the effort to hold my pain at bay
Taking all within to withhold my dismay
I stay the appearance of the man unfazed
Belying the effort to suppress the torrent you raised
If the eyes were a true window direct to the soul
You'd see straight through to where I was left with this hole
A place in my heart I dare never to fill
Wouldn't know where start if I could muster the will
So instead I proceed as though unaffected
Never wincing to let show I'm maddeningly dejected
I had hoped and prayed that you were much more
My excitement has been stayed now that I know what was in store
So now we both proceed as though nothing shifted
As I watch you take my love and callously regift it
