Marking Our Shadows With Sand.

Your heart should be on display
For all to see
Through these wars
It beats with its crimson blood
Surging through the valves of beauty.
Your chapped lips
Your skint knees
Are just signs of the war you're fighting
The profound obstacles you're facing.
The fire is out
The wood is wet
The hangover is coming
Like a sandstorm
Like a bullet shot from a gun.
I pour water on your head
To cool you down
You're restless and empty inside
A little piece of you has died
Only your heart keeps you alive.
Morning comes and the strangers leave
Us to kiss life into the each other
Our heads are swollen
Mixed up with alcohol and haze
And we're sitting in the wilderness
Marking our shadows with sand.
This is a hopeless time
When we can't even stay sober enough
To stay strong
To stave off the pressure
Of the modern existence.
Love comes at us
But we can't always catch it
Like a baby firefly.
I wrote a letter
It's now wet and peeling
The ink is running
Like a think coating of mascara
On eyes of terror.
I stand when you sleep
I cry when you smile
The cracks are showing
The skies are raining
On our parade.
The dirty town
Doesn't need us
It's only a fabrication
That kept us from expressing ourselves
It kept us hollow.
Part II: The Chance To Escape The Wilderness with love buried deep.
We have been here for far too long
Rusting and peeling under this sun
We haven't been mesmerised by anything for a while
Only cutting ourselves to see the blood spilling from our veins.
It's drastic that we need pain to survive
That we need to build dreams
Piece by piece.
It's sad that the world is overgrown here
We can't see the flowers for the weeds.
But we can escape
We can wear our hearts on our sleeves
Demand ourselves to run for the lights
Commit to the road.
My heart is broken
I know it may not mend
With you here it still beats
With its blood urgent enough
To keep me alive.
Now put on your lipstick
And help me kickstart this revolution.
