Mary Cassatt’s Secret, Inspired by Cherie Sumner’s Poem “Painting of Perfection”

In the heart of downtown Paris, lives the artist Mary Cassatt;
A painter of untold genius, such talent has she got!
Her paintings are collected, by the famous and the rich;
By the creation of these masterpieces, she has found her lifelong niche!
But poor Mary is so lonely, for no husband spouse has she;
All work and never playing, has been her passion ever be!
But the fame and all the fortune, have filled her pockets not her heart;
Then one night comes an inspiration, a new canvas does she start!
She thinks of the “Mona Lisa”, the zenith of a woman done in art;
Then she envisions a magnificent Adonis, it’s great male counterpart!
Her brush starts it’s gentle rhythm, she first completes his face;
His beauty is so breathtaking, her heart begins to race!
.
His Michelangelo chiseled body, she then strokes it into view;
With Herculean bulging muscles, and glossy wired sinews!
At last the oil is finished, but she doesn’t sign her name;
She has painted him for herself only, and not to gain some fame!
As she stands next to the canvas, she stares at it with bliss;
Then totally to her amazement, he throws to her a kiss!
She thinks that she is dreaming, but he smiles at her and speaks;
You have brought me right to life now, and your love I’ll ever seek!
It is said that for so many years, people would come to her studio;
They would try to buy this painting, but of course Mary always said no!
Each night with tight drawn curtains, he’d lay down by her side;
And take Mary to many places, she had herself so long denied!

My Dear Brother Tony,
Actually, it was a cool thing that Cherie did for me, totally inspiring this write. He creative powers of painting a canvas that came to life, was definitely the harbinger of my poem. I have been an ardent lover of the works by Mary Cassatt for almost fifty years, and consider her the greatest American woman artist in history. Loved your quote about "Toi-Lay", but you shorted her one, because it translates to her getting laid three times. Thanks for your always so spot on words and kindest of compliments.
Peace, Love and Rockets,

Hi Larry,
Quite much enjoyed this piece and a well respected {lady} to place in her honor, (Cherie)..This was very well told and rhymed (poem) ...Well selected poem, (subject and construction)....This was a poem of pristine thought and feelings of the poet, inserted in a strategic and selective order, in order to better present and be received, the (full benefits), of the story being told, through this poem, by the writer in order to gain or (to hope! to be expected), the fully understanding are positive perception of the reader, given the place, time and characters, of its past settings..Job very well done my friend..Jim
Hi Jimmy,
It is a true honor to receive such words of praise from an erudite scholar of poetry such as yourself. I feel like I am back in my freshman year of college, and my Literature Professor has just used my write as an example of perfection for the whole class to see. As for Cherie, her brilliant idea of a woman painting a canvas that came to life, was my inspiration for the Mary Cassatt poem. I am an Art Dealer by trade, and have loved and ingested her works for almost fifty years. Thank you so much for your very kind extolling.
Peace and Love,
