Mary Millner

Mary Milliner
Today of all days
Mary is feeling very old
It is her eighty second birthday
She is unwell with a cold
But if she doesn’t go outÂ
There is no food to be had
As she opens her empty fridge
realization makes her sad
Standing in the queue for the Number twenty three
She shuffles on to the bus
Puts her bag onto her knee
Arriving in the shopping mall
Marys headache is worse
A caring passerby speaks to her
She tells her she is a nurse
Asking Mary what was the matter
Wasn’t she okay
Poor old soul answered politely
“I don’t think I am well today”
“I have pains in my arms
Aches in my chest
I’m so hot and bothered,
I need a seat for a rest”
Nurse Smith felt her brow
She dialed 101 on her phone
Calmly assuring Mary she was not on her own
The ambulance men were lovely
Wheeled her to a hospital bed
Mary would have an ECG
These two paramedic men said
Mary had suffered a heart attack
Though she hadn’t had a clue
Needed an immediate operation
Asked for her next of kin too
What a brave old body
She never uttered a moan
As she told Dr’s she was widowed, lived just on her own
Tis such a sad situation
For so many widowed wives
They are left in a plight
To get on with their lives
It was arranged by the state
After two weeks in intensive care
There was a local old folks home
Carers were taking Mary there
Not  one visit as several years had passed by
Mary Milliner preacefully died
on the first of July
Angels met her in heaven
At the beautiful pearly gate
Now shes at peace with her husband and afterlife is great
