Poem -

Matthew Brown

Waving af the station
Hanky in her hand
They parted with a kiss
At the platform D stand

She has to go home
To their children
He has to go away to sea
To fight for king & country
In the royal navy

They are torn apart in battle
Uncertainty ahead
So many lives lost already
Uncountable tears shed

His Martha & his Mother
Will work hard upon their land
They own a small holding
Cutting crops by their hand

Pray God be with you
Matthew Brown
Speed you a safe return
Your wife & loved ones
Back at home
Are left to wait & yearn
