Poem -

ME SO BIG, TO YOU SO SMALL

Listen as the winds whisper through the trees
Delivering a message we cannot hear
Because we listen with closed ears
Our minds  closed to what could be
Or maybe the message was only meant for the tree?
We look around us on a daily basis
Our eyes see colours, new places
And faces
But we don’t see the nature
That chooses to hide
We choose instead to tread on them
And snuff out the lives

Insects like humans deserve to thrive
They have families too
And possibly wives
So apart from them being smaller
These things we call creepy crawlies
What’s  makes them different from us?
Yes there’s the obvious
They have way more legs
but at the core of it all
it’s because they are so small
Insignificant
and crawl up our walls

I guess what I’m trying to say
If they were as big as us
Would we treat them the same way?
Or keep them as pets
But because they are small
We see them as pests
But all they are doing is trying their best
To feed their families
Just like we humans do
The only difference they go outside to pooh
While we are a bit more civilized
And use a porcelain loo
They try to fit into a society
That’s filled with us
These massive giants
We try to kill them
But they remain defiant
Insecticides are used
But through continous use
It doesn’t kill
Just leaves them confused
So basically we abuse
And intrude
Why can’t we all live together?
I’ll tell you why
Fear

We are afraid of these little dears
But it beggars the question
Why?
Why do we climb up onto chairs?
Why do we run like headless chickens
Out of the room and into the kitchen
It’s beyond all comprehension
Did I forget to mention they are small?
Crawling around
 while we walk tall

god gave us the nature that surrounds
and each living creature
he built with his hands
so what gives us the right
to dig up and destroy their homes
they should be free like us
free to roam
and even part of our home
murder is murder
to kill is a crime
but still we kill millions
which I don’t think is right
all because you're scared
something might crawl on you
in the middle of the night

Does this poor creature deserve to be hit by a shoe?
how would you like if  I did it to you?
the difference however  I’d use a truck
because a shoe to an ant is like being hit by a semi
so go to bed
turn off the light
sleep tight
don’t let the beg bugs bite
because while you’re curled up
nice and warm in your sheets
that’s, when the creepy crawlies
will creep

catching the breeze, owls
toot and hoot...
