MEAN STREETS

I was walking thru the mean streets, my fists balled in rage

a familiar face I saw but I could not recall his name.
He would have walked right by me but I stopped him in his tracks
Say, “how do I know you friend?” He said, “look into your past.”
“You were just a barefoot kid wandering these streets,

I plucked you from the gutter and put boots on your feet,
I taught you how to be a man and ball your fists in rage
until you thought you knew it all and had no use for me”

Say, what happened to the good times? You promised so much fun.
He said, your life was full of choices and you chose the way of the gun
I said, “can you help me, please, I’m lost?”
But he turned to walk away as he shook his head and smiled…
“change your ways or quit the game.”

I watched him as he left, I knew we'd never meet again
I cannot change the path I’m on,
this course I have to stay
Forever walking thru the mean streets,
my fists balled in rage
