Mediocrity

Mediocrity

Computer screen life in a daze
A mundane life to the outside Haze
Mediocrity and boredom a constant
Life started so great, but now disenchantment

I look back on my more youthful times
The giddy heights I promised on where I set my sights
I was going to rise, to be something special,
But now in my life I’m inconsequential

Footballer? DJ? Actor or King of the ring.
I wanted it all to rise and to sing
Alas, no. it fell flat to the earth.
My Youthfulness gone I’ve only grown in my girth

Up at six then to the office I go.
In a sea of grey, the day seems to travel so slow.
Would I escape if given the chance?
I would skip, I would run, maybe I’d Prance.

Tap, tap, tap on the keyboard. I file and report.
Blue screen all day long, I wish it would halt.
In my life I need fun, I need joy, I need Wonder
To sing in the rain and dance in the thunder

The day finally finished, on my way to my home.
completely invisible, just want to wander, just want to roam.
but no, not going to happen, not going to be.
I simply exist, just born to live in mediocrity.

We get out of life just exactly what we put into it, I believe, John.
If we work a mundane 7:00 am to 7:00pm job, day in and day out, and it reaches the point to where we can barely bring ourselves to go into work yet we still do it, then it's up to us to do something about it.
Now, I'm not advocating quitting your job.
I realize that we all have bills to pay.
No, I'm talking taking time out at home–using any free time you might have (if any)–to read and write...if that's what you feel like you wanna do in life.
Risk takers are some of the most successful individuals in the world, regardless of what it is they do.
Having said all of that, if you accept mediocrity then that's exactly what you're going to get.
Best of luck to ya'.

Hello Dean.
Im glad to say this isn't based on my life just an idea that pops in my head and I start writing.
I agree 110% with you and  I'm fortunate enough I enjoy my life (even with all the stress) I have done the mundane things (but not for long) and sent me mental so jogged that on quickly. My old boss quoted me something which I live by now.
"Do what you've always done and you'll get what you've always got" so if something needs changing change it.
I'm a nightmare if I get bored lol
Thanks for the kind words and I hope you liked it.
