Melodies For Lonely Stars

Melodies For Lonely Stars

These days, she turns her cheek when people speak of love
These days, your name has been nothing but an echo,
Bouncing off some unnamed canyon in a state she’s never visited.

You’ll fill that cavernous void
You’ll fill the void with fools and doll-faced girls
Who look too much or nothing at all like her
And you’ll trick your malleable heart into feeling something for them.

But you’ve forgotten your real love
She’s there
She’s there waiting
Smoking a cigarette atop a stained mattress draped in soft blue sheets,
Staring at a forgotten pillow and praying to a god she doesn’t believe in,
That you were there beside her.

And she knows your beauty
She knows your beauty is powerful
But your power transcends your carefully curated aesthetic
In every fleeting moment of clarity
And unplanned sobriety.

You are her prince
But she is not a princess in need of rescue
She does not belong locked away in a tower in some cold castle
That only appears enchanting from a distance.

To her, you are nothing short of fantasy
You are a mythical, fire-breathing creature
Searching for someone with enough courage and soul to touch your wild heart,
And the wisdom to know it shall never be tamed.

You have written many evening melodies for lonely stars,
And placed them carefully in the hollow eyes of all your lovers,
But they burned out.

And your tired head met her pillow once again.
And you remembered.

Maybe this is our moment
Maybe we just forgot to set our clocks
Maybe we were in different time zones
Long before you crossed the date line.

If we don’t save the daylight,
It’ll be dark again before too long.

I don't know where those words come from but the pictures she paints are are real as meaningful as a painting that moves you.  Keep going.

really fantastic piece. Your imagery is vivid. "Smoking a cigarette atop a stained mattress draped with soft blue sheets" makes me think of an Edward Hopper painting.
Love it. Welcome to cosmofunnel

I don't know how Chrissy could write anything so poignant, gives me chills.  She is an extremely gifted writer.  I would love to see a book of her work.
