Memorial Day Soldier

Who is this soldier we memorialize
Who fought in wars then he dies
Even though he had to be scared
For into the face of death he stared
A courageous soldier who served his country true
Willing to put his life on the line for you
A warrior who went through strife
Physically and mentally so you could have life
The men and women who for our country fought
A Memorial Day to honor them we ought
Please don't forget the purpose of this day
On the last Monday of May
In memory of my dad and father-in-law and uncles who fought in WW2 and mother and mother-in-law who were soldiers and have now passed away and all the men and women who served our country in different wars and lost their lives either during the war or from injuries sustained or lived and died with the memories of war forever embedded in their hearts and minds.

Thank you, much appreciated.
I am an ex-military soldier in the South Africa infantry unit, - your poem should be appreciated by all - the respect and thoughts you have added to your poem is welcoming. It is very difficult for a soldier to explain what he/she has gone through and what the effects are thereafter, - whether war is right or wrong it is a reality of our humanity.
Great write - thank you for sharing.
