Memories of my open fire❤️?

Oh how I used to love my fire
Within my living room
Those log burning flames
Encouraged solace in winters gloom

Such cheery contentment
When I stared into the blaze
Though I often huddled myself
Too close which gave me fire glaze

I cannot think of a more welcoming sight
Than a stone hearth with a roaring fire
Mind you collecting kindling in the snow was really rather dire

I used to get up early morning
Whilst my kids were fast asleep
My house was warm & cozy
From the  log combustion heap

Leading up to Christmas
Was such an excitement in our house
Santa threw pennies down the chimney, he was as quiet as a mouse

Roasting chestnuts on our open fire
Toasting marshmallows with prongs
Xmas tree full of decorations
Listening to good old fashioned Christmas songs

Children are long gone now
With abodes & kiddies of their own
Nowadays for easiness we have town gas
Those coal fire days were best I’ve ever known
