Memory

Memory

Once upon my memory

Of a frost specked lawn

Cup-cakes at four

Of dressing gowns

And a child who saw

Remember how we played that day

A swirling game

That had no end

Of hide and seek

And let’s pretend

Our age would never close our minds

To nutmeg milk

With marmite toast

And dippy eggs

Liked those the most

Christmas dripping red and white

With pine-green scent

And presents please

The big one there

Think that’s for me

So time slips by my memory

And the tears that ran

A darkened veil

Of fleeting scenes

On a long cold trail
