Message to my Generation!!

We have to do better so we can be better. Black, a women, gay it doesn't matter!

Because when you are born into a country that will tie a flag to the top of the worlds tallest pole that reads "we the people" or "freedom for all", but is simultaneously knotted so tight in the fabrics of that same cloth that there isn't even room to think about change,

you have to know that equality isn't even close to reality.

We can't let the idea of starting down here while "they" start up there choke us or make us believe we are really unequal to everyone else.

We can't tear down people who are doing good because that's how we kill our own people in our own neighborhoods.

Do better, so you can be better.

Stand on the shoulders of those who died on their knees fighting for better.

Rosa Parks.

A women who refused to go to the back of the bus which turned into the symbol for a people's unwillingness to be moved to...

Abraham Lincoln.

A man that despite the social structure of the time refused to let a people be enslaved by the country they were forced to call home to...

Rodney King.

A man who was beat because of the color of his skin, something he couldn't control to...

A little 12 year old boy who took his own life because "other" people couldn't except him for being gay. Other people stole his better!

So who are you to be okay with just being good enough? Do better so you can be better.

You have to be determine and willing to race and fight for it, and even dedicate your life to it. So, when other people hold you down and rape your thoughts and try to steal that childlike innocence that said "when I grow up I wanna be an astronaut" It won't matter!

Because in your head, you have already crossed the finish line!

And now your process just needs to catch up with your goal, and your education just needs to line up with your soul, and that's when you become better.

You become better when you think "I can do this for sure!" and when you stop turning your circumstance into your excuse.

You become better when you are willing to stand at the bottom and help someone else climb to the top because you know your chance is coming. You become better when you stop profiling and categorizing others based on how they look, who they like, how they dress, and how they speak.

You become better when you become so focused on your own success that you don't have the time or energy to bury someone else s' dreams.

I'm not saying ignore race because that negates history but always remember that a persons worth is not determined by their race, gender, or sexual orientation. YOUR worth is not determined by your race, gender, or sexual orientation. But by your willingness to do and be better.
