Mocking Jay

Littered with waste grime and pain
The dove stole song from the mocking jay
Where one not dare utter a sound
For there are ears all around
Waiting for that misstep
That may cause an uproar to take effect
So none utter a word,
Not an opinion to be heard.
The smell of the sweet earth and spices do
Waft from the peddlers booths
And we wonder how can something so beautiful
Take away our own say?
And then we take a look around
At the vibrant sun,
The cloudless sky,
The children all running about.
We see the beauty and wonder in this place at first glance.
But take a second closer glance
And you will see the mocking jay has left to flee.
Leaving here is a dream a prospect of the future,
But the beauty, elegance and captivating beauty of thousands of years of traditions possess us.
Though we love this place for we were brought up smelling the air everyday and hearing the song of the turtle dove,
The limitations here are just too much.
So we take flight to the other side,
The land of opportunity they say.
Where all our hearts wishes will be granted away.
In this place we can grow,
Prosper,
And laugh with no limitation.
No one peaking in through the window,
Sneaking through a door,
Listening in on our thoughts and dreams.
Yet our homeland is ours,
Memories that we will cherish,
Teach our children and their children.
The happiness the love the traditions the heartwarming unconditional love
Here the mocking jay sings bright and early
With its ruffled feathers a blazing and a strong determination in its tone
To be better to feel better to WANT to be a better person.
TO HAVE THE OPPURTUNITY TO BE BETTER
Being a part of both worlds makes us learn the ways of the world
These two world intertwined create us and who we are
This land we have come to
Helps us rebirth ourselves in a more free and accepted way
Yet our homeland will always be in our hearts
as the place where we were brought up
and decided to dream and become something better.
