From A Modern Railway Carriage

From A Modern Railway Carriage

There's no loud whistle, no puff of smoke,
No man covered in soot with an engine to stoke.
It's not like the olden days to travel by steam,
Helping passengers reach destinations of dreams.
No seated dining car or smoke filled room,
The modern day traveller filled with doom and gloom.
From above our heads in a sorry sounding tone,
"Apologies, we have an unwell driver who's had to go home".
"There will be a delay for ten minutes or so,
We're waiting for a new driver and then we will go".
It seems inevitable that a train delay will occur,
With an arduous journey for passengers to endure.
But it is always worth it when the journey is done,
To meet family and friends and to have some fun.
Don't despair when you hear that tannoy tone,
Five and a half hours are worth it to get back home.
