Moon of Sorrow
I saw the Wolverine lope over the mountain to escape the battle,
Heard a snake rustle the leaves; mistaken for the children's rattle!
The elk bugled to misdirect the legions of swarming death!
Can't escape the masses surging behind us, they see our breath!
One arrow slices through the sky, as the gathering buffalo thunder!
The Eagle readies his talons; and tilts his head in wanting wonder!
The threatening clouds begin to lower; to settle for a better view.
Hiding the descending angels taking notes of the spirits true!
The trees droop with snow, bowing in grief and stoic courage!
Their numbers slowing combatants, allowing the fox to forage.
We're surrounded by the rocks that linger as witnesses of the wind,
Which chases and haunts the remaining numbers to the bitter end!
Blood speaks from the ground, war finished the generations and their fall!
Hearts quiver from the sound, heard the innocence shriek in the Puma's call!
The deer flee through the trees; from their destitute and lonely fate.
The Bear rips open hollows, seeking the lost little children; being late!
I heard the wolves piercing howl; at the barren moon of hurt and sorrow!
Reminding their loved posterity, to wail and mourn for the no tomorrow!
Quietly; the spirits drift across the grieving homeless valley of frost.
As the snow tries to soften the peoples mourning; of the wailing lost!

Thank you sparrowsong for reading and your support my winged friend!
I feel like I`m sheepishly late to the party Jim, been really busy and I only have let's see about 8 minutes before I go into oblivion again. You really typed up a storm with this one though! Great sense of imageryΒ my friend. Love your work. Have heaps to catch up on. Peace and smiles to you always.
Be well! thanks!
I feel, Jim, you have dug up the horrid history of the Native Americans (or American Indians) that's been buried for generations, and expressed very well your deep sorrowfulness. Powerful stuff.
By the way, please don't give up on writing. Younger generations look for guidance and your work is very valuable. In this tough and turmoil time you would have lots to write besides poems. Cheers!
Thank you for all you do Yiyan! as long as I get inspiration to write quality things I will keep trying!................................Jim
I felt that way writing it, but somehow I thought if I add more it will diminish the concept. thanks for reading and your support!

Well Jim, I am sorry I missed this. It moved me to tears, I wont go into detail but it is beautiful. And please. Never stop writing. You should give up the thought of giving it up. You are so talented, you have a great gift for creating imagery. I loved so much in this I will pinpoint a few that really got me...
'We're surrounded by the rocks that linger as witnesses of the wind' as I connected so much with this idea
the whole stanza that involved this
'Hearts quiver from the sound, heard the innocence shriek in the puma's call!'
the reference to arrows earlier, really struck a cord with me.
ββββββThe poem kept a beautiful flow, an enchanting rhythm as I read and I feel like it could of gone on, I would of loved to keep reading. Seriously, I will take time to catch up on all here. I really appreciate you taking the time to read and comment βsending love and good vibes alwaysβ€

Well, well, well!Β What a masterpiece this is!Β As I was reading this I saw all the stars in the night sky. It was as if the constellations came to life and merged with nature. The natural AND the spiritual. Oh, I love this poem very, very much. This is a very special write deserved of a zillion stars. Fabulous. Congratulations on reaching such poetic heights (is it cold up there?). In case you haven't sussed it, I absolutely and totally LOVE this. You have me reaching for a pin, and I don't pin lightly!
