mother

I fell in love today.
Eyes like stars- 

wandering to the edge of the universe.

I saw flowers...

growing through the cracks of her ribs and caterpillars transforming into beautiful butterflies in the palms of her hard-bitten hands. 

Her smoldering tears, rolling down the palest of cheeks...

lips ashen and worn. 

Midnight street lights and a half-empty train.

She laughed and I cried.

From that moment, I knew...

I would always look for her...

in crowded rooms, my quiet thoughts and when the sighing earth meets the rain...
