Mother Begged Forgiveness

A mirror shattered. Her reflection—a bleeding shard. I’m so
Young, the blood drips. The carpet is stained. My kneeling
Wound, begging forgiveness. Something died!
Father drug beauty, a screaming death. The neighbors
Paused. Death is so intimate. I wailed—mercy, the sky so
Deaf. Invoke the saints, for the blood drips. Mother cried
Mercy, but father—so deaf. A mirror shattered. Her image,
Wrapped in weeds. Such addiction—a bleeding room.
Mother begged forgiveness, gnawing upon the seams of
Blood. Such intimacy—a den of ghosts, a flaming pipe.
The glass shatters. The mirror cries. Mother begged
Forgiveness. And father forged obedience. She cried, a muddy
River, fingers deep within the grime. I feigned joy—and
Mother smiled—a broken tooth.
