Mother Earth

I hold a picture of you in my hands. You look tired!
It is far different then the images drawn from thousands of years ago.
While you were still young.
Your checks are bare from industry.
Your breath, wheezing; chocked by multiple assaults.
Roads are your wrinkles forced into your skin by shovel and pitchfork.
Homes are your scars built on your face.
Your saliva is parched from years of poison that withers your life.
You stand against these atrocities day after day as you weaken.
Your strength is not unseen by me.
I am held in your womb but I scratch and tear to get out.
Is matricide to be our fate?
Will I unwittingly kill without ever branding a blade?
Destroying myself by destroying you.
I will give you medicine in the form of honesty.
We knock on deaths door together; you and I.

I've not read you before, Jamie, but it's so obvious that you are an amazing poet, you have total control, depth, creativity and intelligence, the treatment of the subject matter is relevant and so interesting to read, I'm so pleased to find your work....the pull quoted line below is so incredibly honoring to this genre, simply amazing work....cheers
