Poem -

Mother Nature's Tears

he pure, white, virginal snow falls and falls and falls
from the Colorado Rocky Mountains skies.
Mother nature heeds the desperate cries.
They all lay in agony and death on this day.
Snowflakes keep falling, falling, falling in the stillness of this night
upon which a handmade wooden cross memorial stands in the school yard.
Our human ears and eyes cannot begin to comprehend such a heinous act
It was only yesterday that we gazed out the school library window
to admire the beautiful spring flowers so abundant in the fields.
Now it is the dawn of a new day as the sun rays gleam
across the snow-covered school ground.
Reality comes to a brittle end.
A folk music tune of the sixty's comes to mind, entitled:
"Where Have All the Flowers Gone?"
Sadly, a new verse can be added: Where have all the children gone?
