MULBERRY STREET NYC

MULBERRY STREET NYC

MULBERRY STREET NYC

Ricardo Antonio Garcia

If jail cells

delayed the presence of windows

and colored potted plants

segregated its black and white image

to the advances of color

the entire population captured

is now interred in urns.

How we grieve for once living Souls

fighting the irons

trying to exist from day to day.

If jail cells

felt like apartments

echoing a fetus of problems

as neighbors

held ears to the asphalt walls.

Lives spent

what stories belie these faces

before there were pistons

and wheels of rubber

dragging produce to the market?

If jail cells

are quadrants where we exist

I fathom the deep

wondering in the midst

of Mulberry Street

that the answer is painted

or hidden behind

the gray where chemistry fused

its eye of the photographer.

Time porting

impressing the contents of life

from the jail cells

on the Wisdom of the foreseer.

I do see these chapters come to life …

… Mulberry Street and the Anchovy air …
