Mustang

Mustang

I walked on many lost highways feeling numb
Even when I found pain in memories
I'd leave a footprint in the dirt as a bread crumb
Like HanselĀ
Like a storybook my life unfolds
A past, what the future holds

I walked on
The sepia past became clearer
Alive with color
Hindsight does have a mirror
I see me looking, searching, crossing a pass
that leads to impasse

Wild animals are around me
Lost people, they surround me
They prod me with hot irons of accusations
Their forked tongues are tiring
As the Lord's truth rings out from the wild
I turn into a mustang and run with the new teachings
Freely and onward
To glory
To a new story

And I see me finding myself on a lost, perilous highway
Crossing an impasse like the wildest mustang
Ā
