MY BROTHER

While looking back on my early years
Not quite a baby but very much a child
Playing with kids that I called friends
Having fun and running wild
I remember wishing my brother were here
Running with me side by side
He'd be on the porch smiling at me
In his heart is the only place he cried
He came in this world with a body not right
But a mind he wouldn't let you ignore
Physically his movement was limited
His spirit is where he would soar
We never looked at him as different
We always treated him the same
No matter if it were football or chess
He was always in the game
He asked no quarter, gave none in return
Never knew the meaning of the word defeat
He'd work ten times as hard as everyone else
Never quit till the task was complete
So as I look back at my running wild
I realize my brother was with me all along
Carrying his spirit inside my heart
Is what kept me going strong
I never heard him ask, why me Lord
He must have felt, if not I, then another
So please give him all he asks when he walks through those gates
And remember Lord " HE AIN'T HEAVY, HE'S MY BROTHER"
