My Candy Boy
Frankie Valli had his “Candy Girl”, that he told the world about;
And my parents had their “Russell Stover’s”; “They’re so good” they’d always shout!
But they never had anything as sweet as you, my precious “Candy Boy”;
My honey coated gift from God; that brought me untold joy!
The moment that I tasted you, your sweetness was off the charts;
And since I was a sugar freak, our romance then did start!
For you designed my personality, from tart to honeycomb;
And it happened on the very day, the one I brought you home!
For I never had felt love like this, for a little puppy dog;
But you taught me how to feel again, and rescued me from blinding fog!
The day you came, I felt my life restart, you neutralized my Novocain;
And instantly, I saw the light; I was loving, once again!
You stayed with me for thirteen years, five short of my request;
But, through every one, your beauty shone, and I knew you were the best!
Now my “Candy Boy” has gone upstairs, to sweeten “Heavens’ Pot”;
I’ll miss you till the day I die; then rejoin you at your spot!

Hi Tony,
Believe it or not, right after 9/1/1 when I had to be gone for an extended period of time, Linda said she had just seen the most beautiful puppy in the world. She asked me if we could buy him. With shaking trepidation, partly out of guilt for having to be away for so long, I said okay. The day I returned home, I walked through the door and this little white dervish jumped into my arms and into my heart forever. I hadn't had feelings like that since I was a little boy. Nico changed my life and actually because of him, I developed a Buddhist mentality, eschewing even stepping on a bug, as all living things, no matter how small, have a soul. It's because of him and his passing sixteen months ago that I began again to write poetry. He is in much of my work, as he is the force that guides my pen. Thank you for comprehending the love that I try to portray in each of my works about him. I don't think, in the history of mankind, that anyone has ever loved a dog more than I love Nico.
Peace, Love and Rockets,
xox Larry
