My feathered imam

My feathered imam

my imam is a bird

he awakens me for prayer before the dawn

his call is gentle and rhythmic

like a loving whisper to the heart

he utters thanks to the almighty

he surrenders the day to his care

a little bird much larger than an angel

he lifts my spirit and guides me well

my imam brings down heaven

he sings a song of hope

he declairs the faith of generations

and humbly asks for help

and so I rise to join him

as we petition our common source

of life and strength and peace
