MY FINAL SONG

MY FINAL SONG

MANY SONGS I’VE  SUNG
THROUGHOUT MY FLEETING YEARS,
OF CHARITY AND LOVE, NOT OFTEN,
BEING A MAN OF CORRUPTED WAYS.

I’VE SUNG OF PRIDE AND ARROGANCE
IT FLOWED FROM THE DEPTHS OF MY HEART,
AND A MELODY OF PURE SELFISHNESS,
WITH LUST PLAYING ITS PART.

I SUNG OF RICHES, LIKE THE NEED FOR WATER,
AND POWER, AS THE GIFT OF THE SUN,
BUT WITH ALL MY SONGS OF SELFISHNESS
THERE WAS A LITTLE FLAME OF YOUR SPIRIT
IN MY HEART THAT BURNS.

YOU NEVER LEFT ME
TO THE FOLLY OF MY SINFUL WAYS,
NEITHER DID YOU SHORTEN MY WASTED DAYS,
BUT GRANTED ME A THOUSAND SUNRISE TO SEE,
DEMONSTRATING THE KIND OF LOVE,
THATS BEYOND MY REACH.

SO THIS WILL BE MY FINAL SONG,
A SONG OF REPENTANCE AND SORROW
FOR ALL THE WRONGS I’VE DONE,
AND TO YOU, I’LL SING A SONG OF PRAISE,
FOR NOT SNATCHING MY BREATH AWAY
IN MY DISOBEDIENT DAYS.

WILFORD BARKER.
