My Isolation

This cubed esophagus binds,
This bear moves left to right,
Upfront and behind,
All I see are bricks and mortar,
That circle and spiral,
Thoughts spread like Wi-Fi,
Pale blue lines,
Punch holes and intertwine,
My electronic tag,
Straight-jacketโs me in,
As I spin and slide,
Get thrown inside,
And here I am,
Left to sit and stare,
Scared of whatโs in my head,
Afraid of whatโs out there,
Alone with my thoughts,
My isolation,
Afraid of the smug,
The suffocation,
Afraid of this virus,
This thing,
That could take hold of me,
Shapes me,
Moulds me,
Into a shell,
But for now Iโm in isolation,
And itโs a living hell.

I liked the emotion at the end. Being in isolation is easy for me (at times) as my world is being shut in on a daily basis. But I think after the shut down is over, I am going to make it my new goal to get out more and to make more positive connections in life. It's hard being in solitude. What helps me is walking each day, having a litter of kittens at my feet and a husband. If I lived alone during this time, it would be so much harder to get through.ย

I am so glad that you liked this poem,ย I think isolation is hard. The world we know is changing. I fear of the impact on our mental health and the fear people will have post Covid 19.
