My Kind Of Town

They call it “The Windy City”, and it surely blows my mind;
I love it in Chicago, it’s a town of just my kind!
It started when I was a young man, in nineteen sixty-five;
When for National Sales Meetings, my father and I would there drive!

While he did his important business, he would let me go out and play;
I’d walk up to the lovely Lake Shore, on a sunny Summer’s day!
Michigan Ave. was also in my journey, a most extravagant haunt;
I’d walk for miles, do window shopping, on my so exciting jaunt!

My best friend since childhood, Norman, in nineteen sixty-six;
Fell in love with a girl from Skokie, to be his wife, he then her picked!
He asked me to be an usher, at their wedding in July;
To be held at The Sheraton Blackstone, an establishment rated real high!
.
So I rented a tux and on Tuesday, then off to Chicago we all went;
My ex-wife, and another couple, and six days there did we spend!
The wedding was not till that Sunday, but each night the days before;
We were wined and dined in elegance, at great parties thrown galore!

The afternoon of the wedding, Bridal Party in a large ballroom;
Henny Youngman came up to visit, tell jokes to us and the groom!
The Bride’s father knew him real well, he was one of his closest friends;
So he asked him to entertain us, and some time with us to spend!
.
At the wedding, the guests were so elegant, dressed right up to “The Nines”;
After, we partied till midnight, having the greatest of rip roaring times!
I will never forget these memories, of my amazing early days;
In My Kind Of Town, Chicago, and the trails there that I blazed!
