MY LITTLE HIDEAWAY

Once a year I am able to get away
From the steady seven to three shift
And every other weekend drag
I look forward to the mountains of Pennsylvania
Where my friends' little cabin was located
We had shared the hideaway only once
Since he cannot travel as before
Due to his leg being amputated
Diabetes you know!
I would make the trip as he asked
Just to make sure that everything was ok
He was so fond of that little hut,
But I soon found my trip to be
More of a mental and physical relaxation
For me
As I follow the tracks early one spring morning
I marvel at the landscape view
Leaves filling the treetops.. all colorful, swaying to a gentle breeze
The sounds of birds, insects, and animals
All expressing their voices with true confidence
Singing nonstop, churning, and subduing
The distant rumbles of the combustible engine
Fading like a cloud carrier by the winds intent
I felt to myself.. this is what life is all about
Raw, beautiful, untouched nature invading my minds curiosity
The total opposite of my every day grind
As I slow my step, pausing to engage
In this picturesque
I counted various species of birds
Ants, worms, beetles and butterflies
It was as though Eden' gate was opened unto me
As I reached where the hut was located
Some four hours later
I found myself in a state of shock
The little hide away was burnt to the ground
Assaulted by human hands
And so the journey continued back to the cities pestilence.
