My Love

My Love

Twenty years ago,
I decided to let you go;
And in my heart, since then,
I've begged to have you back.
And return, you did;
But I let you go again.
Since that day, twenty years ago,
I've seen you get on with your life;
My mornings have been
A little less bright,
My nights
A lot more dark.
My laughs have been
A little less deep,
Just as my smiles have been
A lot more stark.
But the sight of you
Makes them all come back,
Even twenty years after we've parted;
After I moved you away from me.
But you still are the one
Who brightens my life
And makes my life
Worth living.

I can't die, because I want
To see you again
And I can't live
Away from you.
And I'm afraid to lose
My passion
If, then, I were to have you.
Because it's the desire to have you
That keeps me alive
Just as it kills me, every day.
So now that we are hugging
I wish time to freeze
And stay forever, and ever
This way.
