My Mam

My Mam

My Mam had me when she was thirty eight
But i was the youngest of five
& they were married very late

My memories of my Mam
Are still very clear
Though she left to join the Angels
Oh so dear

I see her sitting at her sewing machine
Pins in her lips
Making our dresses
& fitting the zips

Her needlework was the best
She could have won awards
Don’t think she realised
It was better than the rest

Her nickname was Bunny
Tho I never found out why
She was christened Mabel
But if you said that she would sigh

I know Mam was in the Army
That is how she met my Dad
He was in the Royal Navy
Her stories always made me glad

You see his sister Madge, she was her best mate
So she visits Madges home
They go out on a date

I don’t think it would be easy
My Dad seemed very shy
I reckon when he met his Bunny
She would be the β€˜Apple of his eye’

They had five children
Girl, boy, girl, boy girl
They did this in nine years
So it would be abit of a whirl

He was a fisherman
Always out at the sea
Giving Mam alot of time for my siblings & me

Mam was from Liverpool
We used to go on the train
I can remember the journey
It took ages then, what a pain

But her folks were lovely
Aunt Nellie & her lot
Aunt Lily, Β her second sister
I was only a little tot

Mam didn’t give you cuddles
But its not that she was cold
None of us were bad behaved
Infact we were as good as gold

Our home was a happy one
My Mam was always busy
I cant recall a time when she went off in a tizzy

If my Mam had a fault
She was as stubborn as a mule
I used to wonder what had happened & I would think her a fool

Coz no one would tell me
What had annoyed her so
Guess it was my Dads fault
But then again I’ll never know

My Father died before her
I know she would be sad
But after he had a massive strokeΒ
Well he wasn’t like my Dad

He was well looked after by Sister Chris & my Mam
But sadly eighteen years later
He passed away little lamb

So my Mam was widowed
But she had a good friend Rita
& They became very close
So my sisters still meet- her

She was a good mother
& We had a grand life
Whilst she was hard working woman
& A very faithful wife

So Mam I am sending my love to you
Whilst you are a heavenly angel
In the sky so blue
I look up above at the stars at night
& I say a little prayer
Hoping you & Dad are alright❀️
