My mid Spring stroll surprise

Scarcity is immensity in these troubling times
I wander all alone amidst my mindful rhymes
Just strolling thru the shrubbery alongside our rambling river watching an Otter duck, diving in a snatch and grab sliver
He saw me as I sat precariously on a ledge paddling my toes in the cold water’s edge

Startled by my presence he gave me a look flapping a fish in his jaws as it slithered and shook
But I whispered not a sound and I kept my cool as this beautiful creature writhed in the pool
Did he have baby pups ? hungry mouths to feed ? propbably they were hiding nearby amongst the reed

I never saw his little ones tho I know they were there pretending not to see me with their apprehensive glare
Father killed his catch and he kept it in his clenched jaws lurking off in the Lily pads swimming with his four paws
I sat a little longer marvelling at my surprise on my mid Spring stroll enjoying an early sunrise
