My Mother’s creativity

Finger figured funtime amidst the darkness of my bedroom wall
My memories cast me back to those bygone days when I was only small
I must have been very young then when I could only crawl
As my Mother made her shadow silhouettes she held me spellbound in enthral
I reminisce the animal calls she sounded in a funny voice as she let me choose what one was next and I would give her an impossible choice
Eeh poor soul when I look back now I asked her for the lot
As Mammy tried her hands at each and every animal I wanted I always loved what I got
“Giraffe” I would shout out in sheer excitement and Mam’s fingers would gently caress her arm
Then I would “Ooh and Ahh” at shadowy lanky giraffe-like images moving on my wall with such charm
“Bunny Mammy” I said this one quite alot and when she held two fingers up against her knuckle well a Rabbit was what I got
Eeh the little things that one remembers as a child
Oh how I miss my Mother’s finger shadowy sensations of bewitched beguiled
We would play this most evenings as I lay down my weary head but I could well imagine me jumping about with enthusiasm on my bed
These treasured memories mean the whole wide world to me
The nights before my sleepy slumberland with my Mother’s creativity
