MY SILENT FRIEND

LIVING IN FRAR

MY SILENT FRIEND

Do you not care
That my whole life
Has been one of fear

Afraid to walk the streets
Afraid of the foods I eat
Afraid even to close my eyes
And go to sleep

I am afraid of the air I breathe
Afraid that in life
I will never succeed

Afraid when someone calls my name
Afraid of constantly being shamed

I am afraid of being in a crowd
Afraid of those that talks loud
Afraid of being alone
Afraid of not finding my way
Back home

I am afraid of being touched
Even though I need it so much
Afraid of the darkness of the night
Afraid that nothing will turn out right

So what will I do if I don't have you
My comfort, my shadow
My silent friend
You are my reflection, companion
And my life long protection.

Wilford Barker.
