My Yearning

My Yearning

A seemingly sad life a fish lives from its small bowl always,

One that could drive any sane man into a rampant craze. 

Life lived swimming in circles never seeing anything new, 

Yet many a human insists upon never knowing foreign dew.

Some may be fearful of doing deeds of which they cannot atone, 

Quite delighted of never leaving their beloved comfort zone. 

How could one be satisfied as a hermit and simply be?

They might be frightened by the idea of travel or the open sea. 

Wonderful it would be to grow old telling stories of travel, 

Someday I shall and truly live as the world watches my story unravel.

I say and write all of this yet I’ve done no wandering, 

For now as a young girl I’ll simply watch my fish and keep pondering.
