Naivety of youth

Meet me by the bandstand
I'll be there after eight.
Remembering all the things we've planned,
Oh hun I just can't wait!
I've left a note Its short and sweet
saying that I've gone,
I'm leaving home and off to meet
my love,my number one!
I know  i'm young but all the same
I know what's in my heart,
And yes I know he's got a 'name'
but this is our new start
Ok'so he's a little rough
and round the edges frayed,
but I can make him diamond tough,
he loves me - that's the trade.
I have some money that I've saved
we really dont need much.
He's all that I have ever craved,
I live just for his touch
So understand me when I say
we have to leave you all...
We've no choice but to run away..
So please dont write or call!
I'm waiting by the bandstand
Its eleven forty three.
The park's a dark and empty place.
He's forgotten about me..
Is it too late to go back home?
My folks will be real mad.
He really was a no good bum..
Should've listened to my dad
I really thought he loved me tho'..
He told all the girls the same...
I guess I now look pretty dumb..
Now I'm the one who's got a 'name'

WOW!!.. It's amazing how often this 'same 'ol story' comes around in life!.... Dad is right 90% of the time..... but still we hope for that 10% possibility to be our own......sn't that LĆve though!?.... it has to be..... or it wouldn't be worth fighting and hoping for!!.... This is brilliant LODIGIANA!!.....reads almost like a song..... love the repetition of the 'waiting by the bandstand' line.....VERY musical!!.....PINNED for perfection!.....LOVE and ROCKETS ....T xo ?â„
Hi Tony...oh my how often we thought we knew it all as kids?...and how infrequently we did! The passion of teen love is something that can never be repeated as we get older..and maybe more cynical..the innocence of perfect belief that we lose.... until we find ...if we are lucky, that one, very special person.. who restores our faith in love and that even our Dad's liked!!!..thank you for  your words, wise and worldly and always appreciated! Xx

All the sage advice in the world is no substitute for hard lessons learned the hard way. As Terry Pratchett pointed out, The leopard does not change his shorts. Unfortunately, we all have to get close enough to catch a whiff before we find out for ourselves...by which time we've already been bitten...or worse, smitten!!
Lovely poem.
