Poem -

Ne'er to Rise, Ne'er to Rise

'Tis in dwindling light of absent slumber
In winter's chain'd embrace
I dreamed of thee beauty, imperfect
Ne'er a sight so divine I beheldΒ
Then a nameless sadness came o'er me
Behold, wet with tears mine eyes
Relentless longing of which we are bereftΒ
Only solace in the din of strife
Comfort when our hope be nought

I, the weary heathen with colourless rainbows pre-ordain'd
but this is rareβ€” Β
mine eyes in thine eyes read clear
Ponder'd for nights immeasurable
How thine love's whispered caress
stirring feelings lost foreverΒ
even into mine world-deafen'd heart
Heathen becometh man
Feeling winding murmurs of life
Seeing the sun, feeling the breeze

How 'tis your fragile thought, tempest unbridled
Uncloses mine calloused heart
all that mine eyes have seen in the world
Not equal to the power of silence in thine eyes

If t'was fate once rendered
That I breathe without thee
Lay me to rest 'pon the grass
Under the stars ne'er to rise with the sun.
