New Year's Revolution

New Year's Revolution

It's always the winter that does me in
That shuts me down
Keeps me in

In darkness I lie
Yet nothing belies
The cold clawing at my heart.

I remember past days
Spent in sunlight
Me, always with purpose in my step,

A harsh laugh escapes me
And I wonder
Why the sun left.

The Earth shifts and

Answering beams
Filter through closed blinds
Bringing me back to real time

I remember that where there is darkness
There is light.

With the advent of a new year
I shed my heavy skin
Donning a bright coat of cheer

Renewed determination
I pick myself up
And realize:

To never give up,
Always believe,
That is my resolve this
New Year's eve.
