Night Shadows

Night Shadows

Shadows
I have watched the evening ebb
Long shadows are stretching on the walls
I lay sleepless in my bed
Footsteps softly treading in the halls

within the rivers of my memory
I have seen them come and go
Shadows I once knew and loved
On the wings of long ago

And just when yawning sunset
Melts into the night
The darkness overtaking
And stealing all the light

I hear your familiar footsteps
Stop outside my door
Stretched out long before me
Your shadow on the floor

I am waiting for your footsteps.
Just like in days of yore.
Why do they not join me?
Sending shadows evermore.
