"None but the Lonely Hearts"
Even with these eyes I could not look;
That innocent life that you took…
Even with this mouth I could not tell;
you my friend, how far you fell…
Even with these hands I could not grasp;
All you needed was my clasp…
Even with this nose I smelt no scent;
I would've known a life was spent…
Even with these ears I heard no sound;
Until the knock on my door, “…a body was found…”

You have a remarkable way of using repetition to slowly build up a key idea/point...until it becomes not only the central idea of the poem, but also the main impression the reader leaves with.
In this instance, it's a technique which imbues these ten, simple, lines with a growing sense of foreboding and dread. And it's in the simplicity that the true beauty of this piece lies.
{Also...love the Schwarzkopf! After Maria Callas, she was probably the greatest dramatic soprano of the 20th Century. If you haven't already, you should check out her recording of Strauss' Four Last Songs}
So glad I made a point to "...watch this space"!
