Not my God

Not my God

Sunday, put your hands together, kneel and pray

Forgive me Father, I must disobey

You are not my God

Your demands tainted and flawed

Knowing there is a higher power is one thing

I know the difference between truth, and a dream

A murderer, a rapist, he is sorry so you open up your gates

Bravo father, you took the bait

Biased, I have learned to read in between the lines

Follow you? I respectfully decline

Just to be clear, I am no atheist. I believe in God. But not in the same way others might.

Religion is so complex. I believe in a higher power. And we must be kind and generous to our brothers and sisters. However I believe the bible is bogus, it has been translated from several dead languages, then re written several times from several different popes and priests. I mean I can go on and on about organized religion.

Good write Amber. I truly love when people can openly express religious beliefs without being offended, and you will find it your writing travels how many people share your same view as well as me. I do not believe in conformity or religion itself, like Catholic Christian Muslim etc. Having your beliefs and doubts in certain areas is a characteristic of being human. Nicely done on this relatable write.

Thanks Devon. Glad you enjoyed it. The amazing thing about poetry is that you can write about anything your thinking about and turn into art

Hey amber . I understand your beliefs but I disagree with them . I have people who are my good friends who are agnostic and some who believe it is written by man and it is somehow tainted. I respect your opinion, even Jesus said just to tell others how you believe and maybe one day they will come to know Him. This I believe to be very true . I do believe in God but not in organized religion , I understand what you are saying , just disagree with some of your beliefs . I respect you for your opinion . Your friend Rock

When I say not my god, i don't mean another God. I was inspired to write this when I over heard a conversation between an older women and a younger women. The young women had a child, unmarried and covered in tattoos. The older women started asking about the child. To make a long story short , the older women spitefully commented that it was against christ to have a child out of marriage, her tattoos were a sin and if she didn't change her ways that she would pay the ultimate consequence. And then she went off about how homosexuals deserve the worst kind of torture. Of course I had to put my two cents in. And told the lady to stop harassing this young lady. She said that it wasn't harrassment that she was spreading the word of God. I said that God loves all his children. And you are a hateful mean old lady. It's perfectly fine to believe those things. But it is not ok to be so cruel and pass judgment as if she was God herself. I said  if you say that God is like this, then you must be talking about a different God. Which is how I came up with the title Not My God.
