Poem -

Not quite over

The rainbow has faded now

And I'm still here

You're not

But once, we were both here together

We were sunlight through the rain

Shattering,

Splitting sorrow's prism

Into a dazzling array.

Changing the ways the winds blew,

Chasing away the tides.

It felt like

We were headed straight to someplace

Not just

Chasing golden skylines

Beneath a blazing summer sky

We used to walk through the rain

We were laughing

Singing through to downpour

Chasing away the clouds.

The sky exploded into color.

You were soaked, and so was I,

But we looked up at our rainbow,

And smiled at fate, and age, and time.

I realize I was wrong

So wrong

The clouds are thicker than anything

Not so spontaneous,

This new laughter

Chokes me up.

My eyes are silent springs.

But sometimes--

Just sometimes--

I remember,

And the light that shines

Turns my tears into prisms,

Prisms into melodies

Of light and of color.

I laugh like music,

Chasing these foolish rainbows,

Golden, changeful sunsets

At every journey's end.
