Oath of Selflessness

We have stood where you couldn't. 
Traded blood,sweet and even more tears. 
Done things most wouldn't.  
In places where days seems like years.  

Given more than any will ever know. 
Seen things that we dare not to speak. 
Hide away the pain so it won't show. 
In fear of another thinking we are weak.  

Some have gave more and others less. 
We each stood tall. 
Nonetheless.  
Everyone gave it their all. 

Some give years.  
Others gave up life itself. 
For freedoms tears. 
Are America's true wealth.  

If ask to do it all again. 
Re walk those tears and pain. 
I my self would say when. 
Because I know each sacrifice is freedoms gain. 

I'm sure each feel this way. 
Trying now to fit in where we think we belong. 
Wondering what others would say. 
Looking at the scars of our life, a veterans song. 

For those of us that made it home. 
And the family's of the hero's that died.  
Remember there are others,you're not alone. 
When anger an pity come out from it's hide. 

If you severed in the military like me. 
Or a family member of another vet. 
You know we serve long after we are out, you see. 
But with little regret.  

We all carry some type of scar. 
Physical or mental they hurt the same. 
We may hide it away,but it is never far. 
Until our role call is called it always will remain. 

Open your hearts Americans. 
We've failed to keep promises made. 
To each the millions of military veterans. 
Each one still pays the cost of every freedom they laid.  

Today as life passes by you. 
I hope the shadows of each you have past. 
Be a blessing and reminder too. 
The cost that freedom's shadow still cast.
