Poem -

Old demons

Darkness descends upon me,
no sun for days,
spotty sleep,
shadows from past.

Swimming with old demons,
keeping my head above water,
now floating with them.
Familiar faces, energies surround me.

There is no struggle,
sinking down into dark, fishy realms.
It is almost pleasant,
danger hiding.

Mysteries flash,
I go deeper,
to the root of it.
Old, buried sadness.

Fish flash in the depths,
graceful, hypnotic.
A shark passes, leaving me alone
to seek other prey.

Congratulations Susan on the fb promotion. I enjoyed the imagery of your write in the battle and acceptance of ones demons, some we can do without others we learn to conquer or live with. Good write and I will be checking out some more of your work.

Thank you, Devon! Glad you liked the imagery, and I have to say that I have far more acceptance of my demons now than I did as a younger person. The last stanza says I am not stuck in the battle I once was. I appreciate your comment, hope you find other pieces you like! Thank you for your support! Have a great day/night! Will be looking at your work also! Susan

Thank you, Cherie! I appreciate your support and I liked your comment on this piece! I love the ocean and it's inhabitants. A whole world that is in water! I also associate water with the subconscious and unconscious mind, so choosing ocean imagery for this piece really worked for me. Thank you for your encouragement! Hope you have a great day! Susan

Hey Susan, good one o'clock in the morning read, it has a sad tone, with a bit of light at the end; encouraging.... your communication skills are commendable; not muddying the pond to think thyself deep...appreciate your willingness to share a unique point of view, makes for a cool poetic experience...honest and organic, and in a lot of ways relatable; good stuff....cheers Ā  Ā
