On A Nightstand

On A Nightstand

She kept her dreams in a jar on a nightstand.
Locked away, hidden from the light.
Before sleep overtook her,she would gently  caress it.
Sweetly humming as her hands explored the familiar shape.
The cold glass always came as a surprise,
but she smiled a secret smile knowing the warmth contained within
would melt even the most gelid heart.
As fingers slowly felt around the lid, she knew all was secure.
Nothing would escape from there unless she willed it.
As she turned the jar with infinite care,
she felt each dream  forming and taking shape,
happy to remain within, nestling  with all her
other fantasies, floridly dancing within her head.
Holding the jar  to her  face, she felt the etched glass imprint
on her cheek, and she sighed, a deep contented sigh,
whilst eyes sought refuge in  morpheus’s  arms,
and slowly, languidly, she held her dreams safe
Never to be revealed,
Broken,
Lost,
But preserved forever in the jar on her nightstand
till next she woke.

Hi Lodi...I am so often at a loss for words to describe adequately  what you have written..you are such a visionary and you draw us into a world we sometimes have left unseen...I know how feted your work has been with professional poets  and yet you still give us the joy of your writing here...thankfully!...even though I know  it  often seems  to appear  undervalued and  unappreciated...In my humble  view anyway!!..please continue to show us  more glimpses into your imagination, sensitivity, generosity and humanity which is what poetry is all about isn't it? Thank you for sharing

Thanks so much  for that Nigel..yes I loved the image of all our dreams within reach and yet unseen and preserved ...I love how writing poetry can sometimes seem to open up a window into our imagination that otherwise would remain only ajar... xx

Lodigiana perhaps poets are the luckiest people of all. Poems are dreams that we can access whilst awake and then set free into the world. Then not only can we treasure our dreams, in our minds and our hearts and in silver topped bright cut glass, but others can too.
Finding Cosmofunnel and being able to share those dreams with beautiful friends like you is the greatest thing to happen in my life.
Your friend,
Nigel x

This is beautiful, Iodgiana. I could picture her as I read through and could feel a sense of lonelines but a solitude to take solace in. Beautiful dreams can be kept and can be realised. Very nice work!

My, my, my LODIGIANA!!.....your brushstrokes are so elegantly soft and inviting......taking the reader into a realm unimagined to them....because your most creative imagination paints so vividly and so uniquely that your words are hard to forget!!......this is truly beautiful.....but what impresses the most (in my humble opinion) is the fact that the idea, the original seed for this poem, is SOOOOO original that it forces the reader to think to themselves ~ "Hmmmm? Who the heck is this writer? I want to read more from her!"......PINNED!!......yours is an exceptional pen!!.......Bravo!!......LOVE & ROCKETS!!.......T xo ?✴?????✴❀?

Hi Tony.....Inspiration is a strange thing isnt it? we can't just MAKE it happen -it creeps up when we least expect it. The inspiration for this poem came as I was recently reading an old diary written by myself  as a teenager  where I wrote about a certain perfume  which was in a cute topaz jar and I  used to carry it around with me in my purse as i thought it would somehow find true love for me!!!! ..Crazy  I know....but it made absolute sense to me!!!  and I guess that was my Dream Jar....I love reading your comments ,, you are the most generous reader and I really appreciate all you have to say..Stay well my brother poet..love and hugs to you ! xxxxx
