One Day

One Day
Coming out is never easy to do
You have to pick the right way for you
Coming out is never easy to say
So hard to tell your family that you are gay.
Some people grow up thinking it is wrong
Never knowing where they belong
Others grow up knowing it’s alright
Never giving up and ready to fight.
To fight for the freedom to love who they wish
To fight through the pain and the anguish
To fight for the right to be treated the same
This is real life people, this isn’t a game.
If this was a game it would be easy to erase
The memories of name calling
The beatings, the hate!
If this was a game it would be easy to end
You could turn off a switch
And the game would suspend.
But it isn’t a game, it is real life you see
And the hate and the name calling, it has happened to me
But I stood tall, it was the right thing to do
I rose above it and you can too.
The journey won’t be easy
There’ll be bumps in the road
The discrimination won’t stop completely
There’s still a long way to go
But we must stick together and continue to fight
Knowing that changes won’t happen over night.
We must persevere and aim for the goal
To win back our rights, which the haters have stole
We must stand tall and be counted
And be prepared at the front line
There’s a future at stake
And it’s yours and mine.
I hope that one day we’ll look back and see
A world with less hate for people like you and me
A world with less pain and suffering too
A world filled with love for me and for you.

Extremely well written and I agree with every word! My son is a baby now but I hope that as he'll grow up he'll know that I don't care whether he's straight or gay. Either way he's still the baby boy I went through heck to deliver!
Thank you for your comments, I'm so glad you enjoyed my poem. Your son is extremely lucky to have a parent like you. God bless you.Â
May He bless you as well!
